  • The XRP Ledger's Batch upgrade has been postponed by at least 10 days due to a brief dip in validator support, with its new earliest activation set for October 9 if support remains sufficient.
  • This Batch feature would enable users to consolidate up to eight transactions, including all-or-nothing exchanges, facilitating simultaneous payments and deliveries of tokenized assets.
  • A separate upgrade that allows account holders to delegate specific tasks without sharing signing keys has also been delayed and may activate as soon as October 8.

The anticipated XRP Ledger upgrade originally scheduled for September 29 has been delayed by a minimum of 10 days after validator support momentarily fell below the necessary threshold for activation.

The Batch feature is designed to permit users to bundle up to eight transactions, allowing for all-or-nothing exchanges that enable a buyer to pay for and receive a tokenized asset in a single transaction, preventing either party from completing the trade independently.

Ayo Akinyele, head of engineering at RippleX, previously mentioned to CoinDesk that developments were in progress around the Batch feature, and Ripple intends to disclose further details about collaborations with asset managers once the feature is operational.

“Some projects are already being built with Batch in mind, so activation would allow that work to move closer to production,” he stated, without naming specific partners or providing launch timelines.

The revised upgrade, officially called BatchV1_1, regained support from 30 out of 35 trusted validators on September 25, as per the XRPL amendment dashboard. This reset the activation countdown, now positioning its earliest activation at October 9 around 14:46 UTC if support is maintained.

Validators are responsible for verifying transactions and voting on network changes. For an XRPL upgrade to proceed, it must maintain support from over 80% of trusted validators for two consecutive weeks. A loss of support resets the accumulated time, regardless of any subsequent votes returning.

The Batch feature had been counting down since September 15. This marks the second attempt to implement the feature after developers withdrew the initial version due to a critical flaw in signature verification prior to activation. The corrected version was included in the August release of the ledger's software, version 3.3.0.

Another upgrade, which allows account owners to delegate specific tasks, also failed to meet the necessary support to complete its countdown.

The PermissionDelegationV1_1 upgrade would enable a business to authorize another account to execute approved actions without sharing the signing keys that control its funds. This would allow a token issuer to delegate payment and compliance responsibilities to different operational accounts.

This upgrade lost its qualifying support on September 23 but regained it the next day, shifting its earliest activation from October 5 to October 8 around 21:25 UTC.
