Social network X will temporarily suspend monetization for users who post AI-generated videos of armed conflicts without proper labeling. This was announced by Nikita Bier, the platform's product director for the algorithmic feed.
Today we are revising our Creator Revenue Sharing policies to maintain authenticity of content on Timeline and prevent manipulation of the program.

During times of war, it is critical that people have access to authentic information on the ground. With today’s AI technologies,…
Violators will be excluded from the revenue-sharing program for 90 days. A repeat offense will result in a permanent ban from the monetization system. However, the platform does not plan to delete the posts or accounts.
Bier emphasized that access to reliable information is crucial during wars, and modern neural networks can easily mislead audiences.
The platform will identify fake content in two ways:
- through the crowdsourced fact-checking system Community Notes;
- using algorithms to detect AI-generated content via metadata.
This policy update comes amid a surge of AI-generated videos related to recent geopolitical conflicts.

The issue of fake content existed on the platform even before the widespread adoption of neural networks—users frequently passed off footage from the video game Arma 3 as real combat actions. However, the available AI generators have significantly simplified the creation and dissemination of misinformation.

At the same time, X's payment system financially incentivizes content creators for high engagement. This encourages premium account holders to publish viral deepfakes without regard for facts in pursuit of quick profits.
X's decision effectively shifts the responsibility for identifying fakes onto the user community. The penalty is limited to a temporary loss of income rather than the removal of misinformation from the platform.
