Token launchpads allow users to quickly create and launch new tokens (or memecoins). They have been instrumental in the memecoin surge that Pump Fun turned into a billion-dollar venture on Solana and contributed to the buzz around Robinhood Chain this summer. Now, the leading figure in decentralized trading is stepping into this arena directly.

The initial rollout faced some issues. Founder Hayden Adams noted that traders found earlier versions of the smart contracts prior to the interface going live, resulting in over $150 million in volume being processed through them. This led the team to manage both the test and final versions simultaneously, delaying the official launch. Adams emphasized that Uniswap has been a platform for launching new tokens for over eight years, so this venture is not entirely new for them.

Pools.trade offers distinct features:

  • No launchpad fees
  • All launches come with permanently locked liquidity
  • The 0.25% liquidity provider fee is reinvested into the locked pool, with 20% allocated to the token creator and 80% to the liquidity mechanism.

The platform is also backed by extensive distribution, featuring support from the Uniswap web app, wallet, and trading API, as well as third-party platforms like Bitget, Fomo, GMGN, and OKX Wallet.

There are two launch options available: an instant launch similar to other launchpads and a “crowd launch” that aims to be fairer and less susceptible to bundling, a tactic where insiders secure large allocations at the start.

This move solidifies Uniswap's position, as it is already the default exchange on Robinhood Chain. Pools.trade integrates the creation and trading process on the same chain where competitors like Pons are vying for market share. The choice to implement a zero-fee model is uncommon, as few teams can afford this approach; Uniswap can generate revenue through other means while many launchpad teams cannot.

Robinhood Chain has already felt the effects, with DEX volumes rebounding by 50% from recent lows and daily transactions rising by 50%. Pools.trade is currently capturing 50% of the market share in launchpad volume and 40% of new token launches, with expectations for these figures to grow.

The platform remains in beta, and its ability to attract quality projects versus simply generating more churn is yet to be determined. However, the actions of the largest liquidity venue in DeFi warrant close attention.
