The team behind the metaverse project The Sandbox has identified and contained a vulnerability that allowed an unknown entity to issue 14.9 billion unsecured SAND tokens on the Base and Binance Smart Chain (BSC) networks. The total supply of the original asset on Ethereum stands at 3 billion SAND, valued at approximately $140 million.
Developers have halted cross-chain transactions and isolated the hacker's tokens on the original blockchains. They reported that user wallets were not affected during the incident, with only 0.01% of the circulating SAND being impacted.
