The site, referred to as Starbase Louisiana, will be built on coastal land purchased from Exxon. Construction is expected to kick off in 2027, with initial flight operations projected for 2029.

This announcement pushes our state beyond $250 billion in new investment and puts us at the center of the next great frontier.” He emphasized the state's capability to create jobs across various sectors, stating, “We have the people and talent to build what the world once thought impossible. Our job creation knows no bounds.”
This new project will mark SpaceX's fourth and largest spaceport, alongside its existing facilities in South Texas, Florida, and California. Once operational, the Louisiana site will house five launch complexes with ten launch pads, as well as facilities for propellant production, power generation, vehicle processing, and employee accommodation.
Starbase Louisiana is part of Musk's grand vision to facilitate thousands of launches annually for Starlink satellite deployments and missions to Earth orbit, the Moon, and Mars. SpaceX estimates that the project will generate approximately 3,000 direct jobs over a decade, with an average annual salary of $92,600.
Additionally, the company is working on plans to establish computing infrastructure in orbit. Earlier this year, the Federal Communications Commission initiated a public review of SpaceX's proposal to launch up to one million satellites for orbital data centers.
