The Solana Foundation has taken significant steps to enhance its focus on institutional finance and tokenized assets by appointing two seasoned professionals from the cryptocurrency industry.
Rachel Conlan and Jamal Raees join Solana Foundation to attract institutional clients.
Rachel Conlan, formerly the marketing chief at Binance, has been appointed as the chief strategy officer of the Solana Foundation. In her new role, Conlan will oversee strategy development, institutional partnerships, and efforts aimed at increasing the number of companies utilizing the Solana blockchain. She previously spent three years at Binance, where she served as the global chief marketing officer before departing in June.
Additionally, Jamal Raees has been named the general manager for payments. Raees comes from Polygon Labs, the organization behind the Polygon network, and has experience from his time at the stablecoin infrastructure firm Bridge, which is now part of Stripe, as well as the crypto payments company Wyre. His role will concentrate on encouraging payment companies and other businesses to adopt Solana for their transactional needs.
These strategic hires align with Solana's broader initiative to engage traditional financial institutions, positioning its blockchain as a vital infrastructure for more than just cryptocurrency trading. The foundation is particularly focusing on stablecoin payments, tokenized funds, and equities as part of its strategy to facilitate the migration of financial activities onto public blockchains.
Earlier this month, the president of the Solana Foundation, Lily Liu, articulated her vision dubbed the "Token Supercycle," which posits that financial assets and ownership will progressively transition to blockchain infrastructure that operates continuously, rather than being confined to traditional market hours.
According to data from Allium, the Solana blockchain has processed over $5 trillion in stablecoin transactions this year alone. Furthermore, the network's tokenized assets have reached a total value of $4.5 billion, which includes more than $600 million in tokenized stocks, as reported by Blockworks.
Conlan emphasized the potential for growth in this area, stating, "The opportunity now is to bring that to a much wider audience. That means making the value clear, building the right institutional relationships, and helping businesses move from interest to implementation."
