Snap Inc. has launched SPECS, a portable computer in the form of augmented reality glasses. The device is now available for pre-order at a price of $2,195.

SPECS operate independently without needing to connect to a smartphone or external modules. The glasses weigh between 132 and 136 grams and are made from TR90 polymer. Here are the device's specifications:
- Field of view — 51 degrees;
- Two Snapdragon processors;
- Signal latency — 7 milliseconds;
- Up to 4 hours of battery life on a single charge (up to 20 hours with the case).
The lenses feature an electrochromic coating that allows them to adjust their tint within 10 seconds based on lighting conditions.
The device runs on Snap's proprietary operating system, Snap OS. The interface supports gesture and voice control, providing users with navigation, work tools, and educational applications.
Developers have received an updated Lens Studio toolkit for creating AR effects. The system integrates AI assistants capable of analyzing the surrounding environment in real-time.
Snap emphasizes data protection, equipping the glasses with an LED indicator that lights up during video recording. Most data is processed directly on the device without being sent to the cloud. Users can manage their sync history and delete recordings as they wish.
In June, Meta removed facial recognition components from the latest version of its Meta AI app for smart glasses following a WIRED investigation.
