Overview
- Securitize has introduced tokenized stocks in the U.S., initially offering 12 major companies, including Apple, Nvidia, Tesla, and Microsoft.
- Each token provides security entitlements under the UCC, ensuring rights such as dividends and voting, unlike many offshore alternatives.
- This launch is part of an increasing competition in the tokenized stock market, with planned trading venues like NYSE and OKX-ICE yet to go live.
Securitize, a tokenization platform, is set to offer crypto traders access to a selection of leading U.S. stocks by introducing tokenized equities that are directly backed by real shares, with the Solana blockchain chosen as the launch network.
On Wednesday, Securitize announced its new Stocks product, which will provide security entitlements for 12 popular companies, including Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, Google, Tesla, Meta, Amazon, Netflix, Circle, Strategy, and Palantir.
Myriad: Predict Nvidia's future highs. The tokens will first be available for trading on Securitize's registered broker-dealer platform on Solana, settled in USDC stablecoin, and accessible to qualified investors in the U.S., the EU, and other approved regions.
What distinguishes this offering, according to the company, is the backing of each token. Unlike many offshore tokenized products that merely track stock prices, each Securitize Stock is supported one-to-one by an actual share and offers security entitlements under the Uniform Commercial Code, maintaining investor rights and benefits such as dividends and voting where applicable. The underlying shares will not be lent out, and holders can convert their entitlements into registered shares when supported by the issuer.
"Tokenized stocks should provide investors with more than just a price wrapped around a stock that is offered offshore," stated Carlos Domingo, Securitize's chairman and CEO, emphasizing the goal of bringing equities onchain while preserving the ownership, investor protections, and market infrastructure that underpin U.S. capital markets."
Trading capabilities are expanding, with initial liquidity being facilitated through Securitize's automated market maker on Solana, supported by Jump Trading as the market maker. Trading will initially occur during extended hours, with plans to transition to a 24/7 model.
The announcement also highlights various partners, including Ripple Prime and Aave, as the asset becomes usable in onchain lending and collateral markets.
This launch occurs amid a rapidly growing competition to integrate stocks with blockchain technology. Securitize's own shares have been trading on Solana since its NYSE listing in July. The SEC's "innovation exemption" has created a compliant avenue for tokenized stocks, prompting competitors like Coinbase and the NYSE and OKX-ICE venture to enter this space as well.
Securitize's tokens are anticipated to be available for trading on the upcoming NYSE's planned 24/7 trading platform and the OKX-ICE tokenized-securities venue, although neither has officially launched yet.
