Ripple has introduced two significant initiatives aimed at boosting the adoption of its dollar-pegged stablecoin, RLUSD, during a month where its transfer volume has seen a decline of 25%.
Ripple has launched an institutional minting platform and integrated RLUSD into Notabene’s compliance network, even as monthly transfer volume dropped to $10.95 billion.

- Ripple has launched Ripple Mint, an automated platform that allows institutions to create, redeem, bridge, and track RLUSD. The token has also been expanded to additional networks, including the XRPL EVM sidechain, Base, Optimism, Ink, and Unichain.
- The company has made a strategic investment in compliance network Notabene, which integrates RLUSD into its business-payments platform to promote institutional use of the token.
- RLUSD now boasts a market value of approximately $1.5 billion, with its supply evenly split between the XRP Ledger and Ethereum. Despite the increase in holder counts and active addresses, both the market cap and monthly transfer volume have decreased, indicating that the token is being held rather than actively used.
On Thursday, Ripple took two major steps to enhance the dollar-backed stablecoin RLUSD, coinciding with a 25% drop in its transfer volume.
The first initiative, Ripple Mint, is designed for institutional clients to facilitate the creation, redemption, bridging, and tracking of RLUSD via a web interface or direct integration.
Previously, the process of minting RLUSD required direct arrangements with Ripple, which involved a manual issuance process. The new APIs enable firms to automate minting and redemption from their own systems while monitoring each transaction from dollar transfer to on-chain settlement.
Additionally, Ripple is extending the availability of RLUSD beyond the XRP Ledger and Ethereum to new networks, including the XRPL EVM sidechain, Base, Optimism, Ink, and Unichain, thus broadening the token's circulation.
Moreover, Ripple announced a strategic investment in Notabene late Thursday. This compliance network incorporates RLUSD into its business-payments platform, exposing the token to institutions that are likely to send and receive it.
While Ripple Mint aims to streamline the creation and management of RLUSD, Notabene focuses on facilitating its movement through institutional payment channels.
This distinction is crucial, as RLUSD's current standing shows a market value of about $1.5 billion, according to RWA.xyz, positioning it as one of the larger regulated stablecoins, albeit still smaller than Tether and Circle's USDC.
The token's supply is nearly equally divided between the XRP Ledger, which holds about $877 million, and Ethereum, which has approximately $643 million.
The outlook presents a mixed picture. CoinDesk's data indicates that RLUSD's holder count and active addresses have surged by 6% and 70% respectively over the past month, suggesting rapid growth in its user base.
However, its market cap has decreased by nearly 5% during the same period, and monthly transfer volume plummeted by approximately 25%, from around $14.6 billion to $11 billion. This trend reveals that while more wallets are acquiring RLUSD, less money is being transferred, implying that the stablecoin is increasingly viewed as an asset to hold rather than a medium for transactions.
Standard Custody & Trust issues RLUSD and possesses a limited-purpose trust charter from New York's financial regulator, a compliance credential that Ripple leverages to engage banks in a landscape where regulatory clarity is essential.
While increasing a stablecoin's supply presents its own challenges, establishing it as a functional infrastructure for institutions to conduct real transactions is the more significant hurdle. The recent launches reflect Ripple's strategy to address this latter challenge.
