  • Ripple has attained a complete MiCA Crypto-Asset Service Provider license from Luxembourg, permitting it to deliver crypto asset services in the European Economic Area.
  • This license places Ripple among a select group of digital asset companies that are fully authorized under MiCA, while unlicensed crypto firms must cease operations in the area.
  • The license follows its earlier approval as an Electronic Money Institution in February, setting the stage for Ripple to expand regulated payments and crypto services across the European Union.

On Monday, Ripple announced that Luxembourg has upgraded its preliminary Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) license to a full license in accordance with the European Union’s (EU) Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulations. This upgrade allows Ripple to offer crypto asset services throughout the European Economic Area (EEA).

“This CASP authorization means Ripple enters the post-transitional MiCA era fully compliant and ready to scale,” stated Cassie Craddock, the managing director for Europe and the U.K. at Ripple.

The CASP license, which Ripple disclosed on Monday, positions the company among a limited number of digital asset firms that have achieved full authorization under MiCA, which became law three years ago and took effect on July 1. Firms without a license are required to halt operations within the region. Ripple had received a preliminary license in June.

Other crypto exchanges, such as Binance, are among thousands of CASPs that did not meet the deadline. The regulations stipulate that a firm licensed in an EU nation can “passport” its services across the entire region.

In February, Ripple secured a complete Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license from Luxembourg's financial regulator, the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF), enabling the company to expand its regulated payment services throughout the EU.
