  • Paradigm has secured $1.2 billion for a new venture fund concentrating on AI and robotics while maintaining its crypto investment strategy.
  • The fund has already invested in companies like drone delivery service Zipline and space defense firm True Anomaly, as reported by Bloomberg.
  • This initiative represents a diversification of Paradigm's investment approach, which previously focused solely on digital assets with dedicated funds in 2021 and 2024.

According to a report from Bloomberg, Paradigm has successfully raised $1.2 billion for a new venture fund that emphasizes artificial intelligence and robotics.

This marks the firm's third venture fund and highlights a rising interest in AI and defense technologies, while not indicating a withdrawal from digital assets.

Managing partner Alana Palmedo stated to Bloomberg, "Crypto was the first frontier for us, and it continues to be a really exciting one, but there's so much else happening right now that's pretty hard to ignore."

Bloomberg noted that Paradigm has already allocated resources from this new fund to various companies, including Zipline International, an autonomous drone delivery service valued at $7.6 billion in January, and True Anomaly, a space defense startup valued at $2.2 billion in April.

Founded in 2018 by Matt Huang and Fred Ehrsam, a co-founder of Coinbase, Paradigm has established itself as a significant player in the venture capital space for cryptocurrency. The firm launched a $2.5 billion flagship crypto fund in November 2021, which was the largest fund dedicated to crypto at that time, followed by an $850 million fund aimed at early-stage blockchain ventures in 2024.

Paradigm's interest in AI is not new; in a June 2023 post on X, co-founder Matt Huang expressed that the firm had "never been more dedicated to crypto" but recognized that advancements in AI were "too interesting to ignore."

Huang dismissed the notion of competition between crypto and AI, stating that the firm does not see them as "a zero-sum competition" and anticipates considerable overlap between the two fields. He affirmed that Paradigm would continue to invest across all stages of the crypto market while also delving into AI as part of its expansive research-driven investment strategy.
