  • OKX has launched an app enabling eligible users to convert over 50 local currencies into USDG, USDC, or USDT, along with stablecoin transfers and spending via a virtual or physical card.
  • The app offers qualifying users up to a 10% annual yield on eligible USDG holdings and up to 10% cashback, with varying rates and eligibility based on location.
  • Targeting consumers looking for digital dollar access and global payments, OKX has not yet revealed its initial markets or the card program provider.

OKX has unveiled a new consumer app that allows eligible users to convert more than 50 local currencies into dollar-backed stablecoins, earn rewards on their balances, and spend using a virtual or physical card.

Through OKX Money, users in selected markets can fund their accounts with local currencies and hold USDG, USDC, or USDT. They can transfer stablecoins, switch between supported tokens without incurring conversion fees, and utilize a card for purchases in different currencies, with no foreign exchange fees or markups, as stated in a Tuesday announcement.

“Hundreds of millions have been left out of dollar-denominated savings and seamless global spending due to a lack of infrastructure,” OKX commented, emphasizing that OKX Money represents the beginning of a broader initiative.

Eligible users can earn an annual percentage yield (APY) of up to 10% on qualifying USDG holdings without needing to lock funds or stake, according to OKX. The app also features up to 10% cashback on eligible purchases and referral bonuses, although product availability, rates, and eligibility differ by location.

While other platforms provide similar functionalities, OKX’s app is designed with a focus on attracting non-crypto users. Binance Pay allows for stablecoin holdings, global spending, passive earning, and cross-border payments with no gas fees. Coinbase’s Coinbase One offers automated yield on USDC that ranges from 3.75% to 5%, depending on membership and region. Bybit Card and Savings provides automatic conversions from fiat to stablecoins for global spending via a Mastercard-supported card.

OKX’s launch of this money app coincides with a growing trend among exchanges and payment companies to position stablecoins as a widely accepted consumer product: a dollar balance that can be held, transferred, and spent rather than merely a trading token. Notably, crypto card spending surpassed $1 billion this year, as firms compete to integrate stablecoin balances into daily transactions.

OKX, ranked third by Coingecko with a 24-hour trading volume exceeding $2.2 billion, is tailoring these services for customers in regions where local currencies are unstable and access to U.S. dollar savings, global cards, or cross-border payment options can be limited or expensive. The product seems aimed at keeping the blockchain aspect hidden from users who simply want to hold digital dollars and utilize a card.

This new app also strengthens OKX’s consumer finance strategy following the acquisition of a payments institution license in Malta to enhance its European stablecoin and card offerings.

The app is being introduced in unspecified markets, with OKX not disclosing the launch countries or the card program provider.
