  • Similar to human transactions, disputes can arise in agent-to-agent dealings.
  • GenLayer utilizes the MetaMask Smart Accounts Kit, incorporating ERC-7710 delegations and the x402 Facilitator, as part of this Internet Court initiative.

A coalition comprised of cryptocurrency and Web3 companies, including OKX, MetaMask, Matter Labs, and Genlayer, has established the "Internet Court" to facilitate dispute resolutions among AI agents.

Currently, AI agents conduct negotiations and transactions independently of human involvement, yet they face similar contractual conflicts as humans do.

These autonomous systems lack mechanisms for resolving disputes, and existing legal frameworks are ill-equipped to address such scenarios. This gap has prompted the creation of a protocol supported by 27 firms, led by the Genlayer Foundation, aimed at enhancing interoperability in AI-driven payments, escrow, and dispute resolution, as stated in a press release.

According to David Riudor, CEO and co-founder of the Genlayer Foundation, agentic commerce is not adequately prepared for the repercussions of disagreements that occur at machine speed. He remarked, "Internet Court is the common ground for agents when an agreement falls apart. Machine-speed money requires machine-speed adjudication."

A significant issue that this dispute resolution protocol addresses is the need for interoperability across various AI commerce systems. While agentic commerce is advancing rapidly, the foundational infrastructure remains highly disjointed.

Emerging protocols and standards, such as Coinbase's x402 for payments, ERC-8004 for agent identity, and Google's A2A for agent interoperability, each address specific aspects of the system, leaving other components unresolved for the agents, as noted by Albert Castellana, co-founder and CEO of Genlayer Labs.

Castellana stated, "Internet Court enables these systems to collaborate. Together with our founding members, we aim to transform a fragmented environment into a unified open skill that any agent can utilize to uphold financial commitments, even amidst disputes."

GenLayer is leveraging the MetaMask Smart Accounts Kit, which includes ERC-7710 delegations and its x402 Facilitator, to support the Internet Court initiative, according to Ryan McPeck, Smart Accounts Lead at MetaMask.
