Novo Nordisk A/S plans to implement OpenAI's AI technologies across all its divisions to accelerate drug development. This was reported by Bloomberg.

The Danish manufacturer did not disclose the financial terms of the partnership. This collaboration will complement Novo's existing AI initiatives, including an agreement with Nvidia aimed at scientific research.

The company aims to streamline all processes—from drug development to production planning. It seeks to regain its position in the competitive obesity treatment market.

While Novo was the first to launch powerful obesity drugs, it has since lost its lead to American competitor Eli Lilly & Co.

CEO Mike Daoustdar emphasized that the deal with OpenAI is not intended to replace scientists or staff. The integration of AI is designed to significantly enhance their efficiency.

Artificial intelligence will help identify drug targets more quickly, conduct more effective clinical trials, and yield clear results based on the company's data sets.

Daoustdar compared the integration of AI to the transition from fax machines to email.

Since taking over as CEO in August 2025, Daoustdar has laid off about 9,000 employees and reorganized the workforce. He described these changes as fostering a "culture of results," which promotes faster decision-making.

Previously, Novo employees had access to a special version of ChatGPT from OpenAI. The new partnership expands this experience.

Pilot tests will begin in departments focused on research and development, manufacturing, and commercial activities. Full integration is expected by the end of 2026.

It is worth noting that in June 2025, artificial intelligence created a drug for an incurable lung disease.
