Summary

  • MoonPay has introduced MoonAgents on Telegram, enabling users to engage with its AI crypto assistant via the messaging service.
  • Users can utilize MoonAgents to analyze markets, generate dashboards, and execute transactions through conversational interactions.
  • MoonPay assures that while Telegram serves as the interface, user data and private keys remain secure on their devices.

MoonPay is expanding its AI crypto assistant capabilities by launching MoonAgents on Telegram, allowing users to communicate with the assistant through this messaging platform, as announced on Thursday.

Kevin Arifin, the product lead for MoonPay Agents, explained that this integration enhances the functionality of the MoonAgents desktop application, providing users access to their AI assistant even when they are not at their computers.

"The desktop app is linked to your computer, but there are times when you might want to trade or analyze data while out and about," Arifin shared with Decrypt during an interview. "The integration with Telegram allows for that flexibility."

In a manner similar to OpenClaw and Hermes Agent, MoonAgents leverages Telegram as a platform for user interaction with the AI. Users can create a custom bot using BotFather, link it to the MoonAgents desktop app, and request the agent to conduct market analysis, prepare transactions, and track blockchain activities. Although Telegram is widely used within the crypto community, Arifin noted that the selection of this platform was not solely based on its popularity among crypto enthusiasts.

"We picked Telegram for the initial integration with the Moon Agents desktop app not just because it’s popular in crypto," Arifin explained. "They offer a fantastic interface for bot creation," he added, highlighting that other messaging services like WhatsApp or iMessage often require more complicated setup processes for similar integrations.

Arifin mentioned that initiatives like OpenClaw and Hermes Agent have also inspired MoonAgents, demonstrating how AI assistants can function beyond conventional chatbot frameworks. "OpenClaw really transformed the potential user experience for LLMs, particularly those capable of accessing your computer," he stated.

While Telegram serves as the user interface, Arifin emphasized that MoonAgents is designed so that users do not depend solely on the messaging app to interact with their assistant.

"The best part about the Moon Agents Desktop App is that everything is stored on your computer, so even if Telegram were to shut down, you could still access your agent and continue your conversations as if Telegram had never existed," Arifin explained.

This development comes as crypto companies are increasingly creating frameworks that facilitate AI agents' interactions with digital assets and online platforms. In April, Gemini launched Agentic Trading, enabling users to link AI models like ChatGPT and Claude for executing trading strategies using the exchange’s features.

In June, Coinbase introduced Coinbase for Agents, a feature that allows AI agents to trade cryptocurrencies, handle payments, and manage portfolios within user-set parameters. Additionally, Nous Research released a desktop version of the Hermes Agent, transitioning the open-source AI agent from a command-line interface to a standalone application.
