Meta has launched an AI feature called Dear Algo, allowing Threads users to personalize their content recommendation algorithms.

Users need to inform the tool about the types of content they wish to see. To activate it, they must publish a public post starting with the phrase Dear Algo.

The mechanism is similar to how people use text prompts when interacting with chatbots like OpenAI's ChatGPT.

“Once a user shares their request, the service adjusts their feed for three days, keeping them updated on the most relevant discussions,” company representatives stated.

Additionally, users can repost another user's Dear Algo request to apply their preferences to their own feed.

“We want Dear Algo to make Threads more personal—whether you’re following trending topics or exploring niche interests. It’s another way to help you find the latest discussions that truly matter,” the company said in its blog.

The tool has been launched in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand, with plans to roll it out in other countries later.

Betting on AI

The introduction of this new tool aligns with Meta's strategy to integrate artificial intelligence into its product ecosystem. In February, the company added new AI features to Facebook for personalizing communication and creativity.

This update includes animated avatars, styling tools for photos in Stories and Memories, and dynamic backgrounds for text posts.

To support these initiatives, the corporation plans to increase its capital expenditures on AI to $115–135 billion—nearly double last year’s budget.

Threads was launched in July 2023 as a competitor to X. Last month, Meta reported 400 million monthly active users on the platform and a global advertising rollout.

In January 2026, CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirmed the company’s focus on testing new AI features amid ongoing investments in data centers and computing power.

Notably, in April 2025, Meta launched a separate application for the Meta AI assistant, which was previously available on WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger.
