FinanceMore than $7.2 billion in cross-chain and wrapped assets have transitioned from LayerZero to Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) since May, with Mantle being the most recent project to move away from LayerZero for secure token transfers.

Recent migrations to Chainlink CCIP include Kelp and Lombard, each contributing over $1 billion, along with Solv Protocol, Virtuals, Re, and Kraken's tokenized assets.

Mantle is in the process of migrating its $2.5 billion Super Portal from LayerZero to Chainlink's CCT standard to improve security and manage token transfer settings more effectively.

  • The migration is set to take place from July 9 to 15, allowing the expansion of MNT token transfers to more blockchain networks while ensuring asset security through oracles.
  • Chainlink CCIP has seen substantial migrations, including those from Kelp and Lombard, both of which transferred over $1 billion, and additional movements from Solv Protocol, Virtuals, Re, and Kraken's tokenized assets.

The Mantle migration will involve the MNT token, which has over $2.5 billion in value locked. This move increases the total value of migrations from LayerZero to Chainlink CCIP to above $7.24 billion.

This trend began following the $292 million Kelp bridge hack earlier this year, which raised concerns about LayerZero’s bridge configurations. Kelp subsequently announced its intention to migrate more than $1.5 billion in assets to Chainlink CCIP.

Since then, other projects have also migrated significant amounts: Solv Protocol moved $700 million in tokenized bitcoin, Re transferred $475 million, Kraken shifted $330 million in wrapped assets, Lombard migrated over $1 billion, Virtuals Protocol moved $700 million, and Yuzu Money transferred $54.5 million.

Mantle stated that its Super Portal will be temporarily halted during the migration period, from July 9 to 15. However, existing MNT on Ethereum and Solana, as well as MNT activities on Byreal and Bybit, will remain unaffected.

Emily Bao, a key advisor at Mantle, remarked, "As tokenized financial assets transition from concept to scale, the infrastructure that facilitates their movement across chains must be prioritized."

Under the new arrangement, Chainlink CCIP will ensure the security of MNT transfers using its decentralized oracle network. Mantle indicated that this migration also grants it greater control over token pools and transfer settings under the CCT standard, supporting its plan to extend MNT to other blockchain networks and tokenized asset markets.
