On September 30, a district court in Tokyo made a landmark ruling, acknowledging that an individual's voice, similar to their likeness, is protected under publicity rights, as reported by Kyodo News. However, the court dismissed the request from voice actor Kenzhiro Tsuda, who sought to compel TikTok to remove videos featuring AI-generated voiceovers that mimicked his voice, stating that by the time of the ruling, those videos had already been taken down, and the court did not address the issue of his rights being violated. According to the lawsuit, the creator of the videos was earning up to 750,000 yen (approximately $4,800) monthly from them.
