- Wang's resignation comes on the heels of co-executive director Tomasz Stańczak's departure and is part of a broader trend of significant leadership changes at the EF, with eight senior members leaving within five months amid scrutiny of its governance and strategy.
Hsiao-Wei Wang, the co-executive director of the Ethereum Foundation (EF), announced her immediate resignation from the organization on Thursday, sharing her decision via a post on X.
Wang's choice followed a recent sabbatical that allowed her to contemplate her priorities and future plans. She remarked, "I've come to feel that this is the right moment for me to step back."
Her resignation occurs shortly after the departure of Tomasz Stańczak, another co-executive director who had earlier indicated his intention to leave following a leadership transition at the Switzerland-based nonprofit supporting Ethereum's ecosystem development.
During Wang's sabbatical, Bastian Aue, a board member of the Ethereum Foundation, took charge of overseeing the leadership transition and has since assumed a larger role in guiding the organization after both co-executive directors stepped down.
This latest exit adds to a turbulent period for the Ethereum Foundation, which has seen at least eight senior officials leave the organization in the last five months, raising concerns within the community regarding the EF's governance, priorities, and strategic direction as it encounters increasing competition from other blockchains.
In her statement, Wang reflected on Ethereum's larger mission and the network's contributors. She stated, "Ethereum has always been bigger than any one role, any one organization, or any one moment."
