Hardware wallet sales in Russia have surged over 100% in 2026 as new crypto regulations are set to take effect.
Sales of hardware cryptocurrency wallets in Russia have more than doubled in the first half of 2026, reflecting a growing consumer desire to prepare for new regulatory changes on the horizon.
M.Video, a leading retailer, reported a 107% rise in hardware wallet unit sales in Q2 compared to Q1, with sales value increasing by 92%. While the retailer did not reveal total sales figures, the jump signals heightened interest among buyers.
Another major player, Wildberries, experienced an 84% increase in hardware wallet sales from the first half of 2026 versus the same timeframe last year, with a 60% boost in sales value, according to RIA Novosti. M.Video's data is based on quarterly sales, whereas Wildberries provided year-on-year comparisons.
Hardware wallets are crucial for securely storing private keys and mitigating online security risks, but even as these sales soar, new regulations will fundamentally reshape the cryptocurrency landscape in Russia. From September 1, 2026, all crypto transactions must occur through regulated entities, and banks will be required to block any transactions not within this framework.
This regulatory shift also introduces limitations on personal wallet withdrawals from local digital depositories, which will remain in effect until July 1, 2027. According to the Bank of Russia, regulated exchanges will provide retail investors the ability to buy liquid cryptocurrencies, albeit with an annual cap of 300,000 rubles.
Despite the advantages of hardware wallets, they are not immune to security concerns. A recent vulnerability in Coinkite’s Coldcard wallet raised alarms, reportedly causing losses exceeding $116 million due to compromised seed generation.
