Goldman Sachs projects that the growth of data centers in the United States will remain steady through 2027, despite facing political and public pushback. The bank has increased its power capacity forecast for the end of 2026 by 5 GW, bringing it to a total of 64 GW, while it has lowered the estimate for the end of 2027 by the same amount to 90 GW.
It anticipates that electricity demand will surge by 38% in each of the next two years. A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll indicates that only one-third of Americans approve of the current pace of AI data center construction, and a mere 14% would support such a facility being built in their community.
