FBI Confiscates $560,000 in Cryptocurrency Linked to Hamas

The FBI announced the seizure of approximately $560,000 in cryptocurrency believed to be allocated for the military wing of Hamas, known as the Al Qassam Brigades. This operation was executed following warrants issued on March 25, June 25, and October 10, 2025, as stated by the Justice Department.

Brett Leatherman, Assistant Director of the FBI’s Cyber Division, emphasized that Hamas has increasingly relied on cryptocurrency and digital platforms for fundraising from global donors. He affirmed the FBI's commitment to using its authority to disrupt illicit funding and prevent terrorist organizations from taking advantage of digital networks for their operations.

Investigations revealed that an encrypted chat group directed supporters to the site AlQassam.ps, which utilized rotating wallet addresses for donations. While specific cryptocurrencies were not detailed in the announcement, court documents indicated that Bitcoin, Ethereum, Wrapped Ethereum, Tether, and Tron were involved, linked to 18 Tether-controlled addresses and three Binance accounts associated with the financing of a foreign terrorist organization.

This action forms part of broader law enforcement efforts to curtail cryptocurrency fundraising linked to Hamas. In 2023, Israeli authorities had already frozen Hamas-related accounts on Binance, and a review in 2024 showed that Binance had frozen about 14% of over 1,500 wallets flagged by the Israeli police.

A U.S. warrant in March 2025 led to the seizure of $201,400 from addresses that had received more than $1.5 million since October 2024. The FBI's operation also included the confiscation of domains and servers from the fundraising site, allowing agents to intercept donations and gather information on thousands of individuals who reached out to Hamas regarding contributions.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro underscored that this initiative sends a strong message that online networks and cryptocurrency are not safe from law enforcement. "A message to Hamas: We will stop your fundraising for terror," she stated, emphasizing the vulnerability of their networks and funds.
