Facebook has introduced new artificial intelligence features aimed at diversifying communication and enhancing creative expression for users.

We’re introducing new creative features on Facebook powered by Meta AI: animate your profile picture, add an expressive backdrop to your text posts in Feed, and change the aesthetic of your Stories and Memories.https://t.co/FSzrorP6wq

The update includes animated avatars, styling tools for photos in Stories and Memories, and dynamic backgrounds for text posts.

Meta aims to keep its flagship product relevant among younger users. The new features focus on content personalization, a key demand of Generation Z.

The animated photo option adds movement to static images, allowing the subject to wave, form a heart, or wear a virtual party hat. The company recommends using clear portrait photos where the person looks directly at the camera.

Users can upload images directly from their photo albums. Over the year, Meta plans to add more animation variations.

Facebook has also enhanced Stories and Memories. The former consists of short photo and video posts that disappear after 24 hours, while the latter showcases content from the same date in previous years.

A key new feature is Restyle, powered by Meta AI. This tool allows users to modify uploaded photos by adjusting lighting, color schemes, or completely changing the background. Users can either select a preset or enter a text prompt for processing.

Facebook is gradually introducing animated scenes like falling leaves or crashing ocean waves that can be added to text posts in the feed. Seasonal backgrounds are expected to be available in the future.

The social network boasts around 2.1 billion daily active users, but it has faced challenges in attracting and retaining a younger audience in recent years.

In April 2025, Meta launched a separate application for the Meta AI assistant, which was previously available on WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger.
