Deus X Capital, a crypto and fintech investment firm, has announced its closure, with an official unwinding set for January 31, 2027, as its investors pursue different strategies.

Leadership Changes Amid New Ventures

Tim Grant, the firm’s CEO and a former executive at Galaxy Digital, will transition to lead an AI-focused venture named TensorX. Meanwhile, Chief Investment Officer Stuart Connolly will manage the firm's formal dissolution process. Some of the firm’s portfolio companies will continue operating under the guidance of their current stakeholders.

The Morton family, who are the primary investors behind Deus X, are diversifying their investment strategies. Shane Morton is launching Darius, which will concentrate on artificial intelligence, while brothers Owen and Jason Morton are establishing a new entity named 95, aimed at investing in fintech and market opportunities.

Tim Grant expressed ambitions for Darius, stating, "We want to be a prominent player in AI in Europe," highlighting the increasing competition between AI and crypto for investor interest and capital.

According to Galaxy Research, attention towards artificial intelligence is drawing focus away from digital assets, complicating fundraising efforts for venture firms.

Deus X Capital reported an impressive annual return of 36.5% since its inception but opted not to disclose its total capital figures. The firm launched in October 2023 with $1 billion in investments and capital available for deployment, targeting a mix of private equity, venture capital, and hedge fund investments across digital assets and fintech.

Initial investments included stakes in Galaxy Digital and Hilbert Group, as well as allocations to various hedge funds, with operations based in Malta, London, and the UAE. In September 2024, Deus X introduced Solstice Labs to create institutional-grade decentralized finance products for a wider investor base. Its portfolio also featured Alpha Lab 40, a proprietary trading firm, and Cor Prime, a crypto prime broker that started with a $100 million risk-capital commitment from Deus X.
