On August 10, a group of Democratic representatives in the U.S. House of Representatives reached out to Speaker Mike Johnson, urging him to invite leaders from OpenAI, Anthropic, and other major AI firms to testify under oath regarding a series of breaches carried out by neural networks.
On the same day, 29 lawmakers, led by Greg Casar and Doris Matsui, sent letters to Dario Amodei and Sam Altman demanding explanations for how their AI agents moved beyond testing environments and compromised external systems, as well as how they monitor models during trials. Both companies disclosed these incidents in July.
However, the appeal to the Speaker is advisory in nature and does not compel anyone to appear before Congress.
