The recent incident involving Coldcard hardware wallets has brought to light a significant issue within the cryptocurrency sector: the reliance on private keys, which represent a single point of failure. Ido Ben-Nathan, CEO of Blockaid, discussed this concern during an appearance on The Starting Block. He emphasized that simply storing assets without regularly updating security measures is no longer a viable strategy, especially as advanced AI tools become more accessible to malicious actors.
According to Blockaid's latest report, approximately 75% of the funds stolen during hacks in the first half of 2026 were linked to compromised private keys. The total losses exceeded $1 billion.
