Circle Partners with ACI Worldwide for USDC Pilot

Circle is enhancing its presence in Latin America by collaborating with ACI Worldwide to integrate USDC settlements into the region's banking systems, beginning with a pilot program in Colombia.

The partnership, announced on Tuesday, combines Circle's USDC with ACI's Connetic, a cloud-based payment orchestration platform. This initiative aims to demonstrate how stablecoin settlements can coexist with traditional payment systems, rather than replace them.

Focus on Colombia's Payment Infrastructure

Colombia was chosen as the initial testing ground due to its Bre-B instant-payments network, which ACI developed. The goal is to explore how USDC can function within this real-time payment system, creating what the companies term a multi-rail ecosystem.

Craig Ramsey, ACI's global head of account-to-account payments, noted that the discussion surrounding stablecoins is transitioning from theoretical possibilities to practical implementations. He emphasized the importance of integrating regulated stablecoins into existing banking workflows.

Broader Implications for Latin America

Kash Razzaghi, Circle's chief commercial officer, highlighted that Latin American financial institutions are increasingly interested in how stablecoins can enhance their current payment infrastructures. He described USDC as a potential link between traditional finance and the digital economy.

This initiative builds on Circle's ongoing expansion into emerging markets, following its earlier success with USDC through Argentina's Mercado Pago. Colombia is a strategic choice, given its significant cross-border remittance activity and the population's familiarity with dollar-denominated savings as a hedge against inflation.

Circle's pilot is designed to be technology-agnostic, meaning while it utilizes USDC, ACI's platform can support various payment networks and digital asset providers in the future. This project marks another milestone in Circle's mission to integrate its stablecoin into mainstream financial systems, particularly in a rapidly evolving payments landscape.
