Shangett describes ChangeNOW as “a trading engine accessible to many at once.” The platform functions as a mediator between users and both centralized and decentralized exchanges, executing trades on behalf of clients without requiring them to monitor order books, transaction fees, or complex interfaces.
The trading engine primarily utilizes its own liquidity. Shangett noted that ChangeNOW “predominantly operates using our own liquidity for swaps,” determining trade prices based on order books from various exchanges, market data feeds like CoinMarketCap, and an internal "liquidity engine" that manages wallets holding balances for specific trading pairs. By relying on its reserves, she contends that “network speed is not as much of an issue as it could be.”
A recent benchmark conducted by swap aggregator Swapzone, which analyzed 150,000 transactions, revealed that ChangeNOW's median settlement time for a USDT-to-ETH swap was less than a minute, contrasting with an industry average of roughly 45 minutes.

Fiat transactions are enabled through “trusted partners” such as Transak, Simplex, Banxa, and Guardarian, allowing ChangeNOW users to purchase cryptocurrencies using Visa, MasterCard, Google Pay, Apple Pay, FasterPay, Sepa, Pix, ACH, and Revolut.

ChangeNOW has introduced a variety of new tools that enhance its offerings beyond basic swaps. Private transfers ensure that the sender's wallet address and on-chain trail remain hidden from the recipient while still adhering to AML monitoring protocols. Users can also create a Permanent Exchange Address, which provides a consistent, reusable deposit address that automatically converts any incoming cryptocurrency into a designated payout coin, designed for regular conversions.

The team’s global presence allows them to strategically position inventory, as she explained, stating, "We secure additional liquidity for specific tokens before American users start their day," noting that these spikes often lead to ChangeNOW “setting new transaction records.”For less frequently traded or highly volatile pairs, Shangett mentioned that "we actively manage liquidity to maintain stability," which sometimes necessitates setting minimum or maximum trade limits—though these limits are usually minimal, sometimes as low as $2. In instances of Ethereum congestion, the solution is straightforward—"adjusting the network fee," which she indicated ChangeNOW occasionally covers. During network interruptions, forks, or hacks, "we provide real-time alerts" regarding potential delays for swaps on networks like BNB Chain or Solana.

This support structure features an "L0" community team on social media, "L1" managing chat and email inquiries, with escalation to L2 and L3 engineers "available almost around the clock,” Shangett noted. Emergencies activate "an all-hands, rapid-response protocol" involving L3 and L4 engineers; however, she mentioned that “most issues can be resolved by our compliance department or L2 engineers.”
Looking Ahead
When asked about achievements that often go unnoticed, Shangett highlighted the platform’s cross-DEX bridging, which is “much cheaper and faster than a conventional decentralized cross-chain bridge,” along with its private transfers that facilitate both B2B and B2C transactions, as well as within the NOW Wallet, ChangeNOW’s self-custody wallet.
ChangeNOW is continuously striving for simplicity, with Shangett stating that the exchange is actively enhancing its platform.
