- The QNX operating system, renowned for its deterministic and safety-certified design, is now a cornerstone for the company, utilized by major chip manufacturers like Nvidia and AMD in smart vehicles and robots.
- BlackBerry's shares jumped nearly 23% following a strong earnings report and increased guidance, as investors recognized its secure, cryptography-driven infrastructure as a major player in AI.
Remember BlackBerry? The iconic phone brand that was once ubiquitous but fell out of favor after the iPhone’s launch.
Now, it’s making a notable return.
The modern BlackBerry is not about phones; it is now a "mission-critical software layer in the realm of physical AI," and its stock is experiencing a surge.
No longer a producer of consumer mobile devices, BlackBerry has quietly transitioned into a tech leader focused exclusively on the "Physical AI" and robotics sectors.
The driving force behind this shift is its robust software framework known as QNX, which acts as the "uncrashable" nervous system for autonomous technologies. This software is employed by leading chipmakers such as Nvidia and AMD to develop smart cars and warehouse automation systems, ensuring that these machines operate safely and without delay.
During a recent earnings call, CEO John Giamatteo remarked, "As intelligent machines become increasingly autonomous and operate around people, the requirements for safety, security, reliability, and real-time determinism become even more important. Unlike probabilistic AI systems, QNX technology is deterministic and safety certified, which is precisely why it is so difficult to replicate and why customers trust it for systems where failure is not an option."
Investor interest is clearly evident, as the stock rose nearly 23% on Thursday, spurred by a significant earnings surpass and an optimistic revised forecast. Analysts are now keenly praising BlackBerry’s critical infrastructure role in the AI sector.
Historically, BlackBerry devices were favored by government officials and executives for their high security and resistance to hacks, utilizing encryption based on the same mathematical principles as today’s cryptocurrencies. While the application has changed, the underlying cryptographic methods remain relevant.
Today, BlackBerry continues to offer similar security for AI systems, with QNX relying heavily on its established cryptographic foundation.
Thus, BlackBerry is now also part of the AI narrative.
