Bitcoin's value has fallen below $81,000, trading at approximately $80,400 early Thursday, after a brief spike to nearly $84,000 following a surprising U.S. inflation report. This decline marks a 2.6% drop over the past 24 hours and positions the cryptocurrency just above last week's low of approximately $80,430.
The latest core inflation figures, which exclude food and energy prices, rose to 2.6%, surpassing the anticipated 2.5%. This unexpected increase raises the likelihood of another interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve, with the next meeting scheduled for October 27-28. Such a move typically strengthens the dollar and exerts downward pressure on assets like bitcoin.
Additionally, the selloff in artificial intelligence stocks has impacted the market, with Nasdaq 100 futures declining by 1.2%. This follows news from Anthropic, which reported a revenue growth of $16.8 billion for the third quarter, indicating a slowdown in growth.
