In July, experts have noted several days of inflows into U.S.-listed cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds, suggesting a revival of institutional interest. However, a broader view indicates a troubling trend for institutional investments.
Data from SoSoValue reveals that bitcoin spot ETFs have recorded a mere $205 million in net inflows this month, marking the lowest monthly total on record. Despite having two trading days left, this figure represents a minimal recovery compared to the significant outflows of $2.43 billion in May and $4.52 billion in June.
On a brighter note, ether has performed better, with ETH ETFs attracting $342.85 million in July, nearly matching April's figures and surpassing both bitcoin and other crypto funds. Meanwhile, XRP is poised for a fourth consecutive month of inflows, although the total remains a modest $13.61 million. Solana ETFs stand at $13.82 million.
These statistics highlight a weak institutional interest overall. Ether's stronger performance aligns with its favorable price movement against bitcoin, as the ether-bitcoin pair on Binance has increased by 11% this month.
In the last 24 hours, neither bitcoin nor ether has shown significant price changes, even after the Federal Reserve's recent decision, which some analysts labeled as a hawkish hold that could imply a potential decline in rates.
“On the board, the 200-week near $63,300 is the referee; holding it would imply today’s flatness indicates strength, while falling below $62.5k could trigger a liquidation target for bears at $60k,” analysts from Marex noted.
Market volatility might increase later today with the upcoming U.S. core PCE inflation and GDP reports. Stay tuned!

BTC's daily chart with Bollinger bands. (TradingView)The chart displays BTC's daily price fluctuations in candlestick format, overlaid with Bollinger Bands. These bands indicate volatility, positioned two standard deviations above and below the 20-day simple moving average of a cryptocurrency’s spot price.
Currently, these bands are experiencing their tightest range since January. A sustained tightening, known as a squeeze, typically results in a significant price movement, akin to a compressed spring releasing stored energy, which can lead to sharp price fluctuations.
In essence, a substantial price move may be on the horizon.
