- On August 28, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs saw net outflows of $201.9 million, ending a nine-day inflow streak and reducing cumulative net inflows to approximately $55.1 billion.
- This downturn follows a strong performance that brought in $2.8 billion over the prior eight days, coinciding with Bitcoin's surge towards $80,000, and included the largest single-day inflow since May, with daily totals exceeding $300 million and peaking at over $600 million on August 20.
- In contrast, Ethereum ETFs continued their upward trend, attracting $102.1 million to extend their inflow streak to ten days, raising total inflows to around $12.9 billion.
The recent performance of U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs has been mixed, as they reported significant outflows while Ethereum ETFs maintained their momentum.
According to data from SoSoValue, Bitcoin ETFs registered net outflows of $201.9 million on August 28, breaking a nine-day streak of inflows that began in mid-August. This shift brought cumulative net inflows down to about $55.1 billion, with the funds currently managing around $93.9 billion in total net assets. Decrypt's ETF flow tracker adjusted its sentiment for Bitcoin to "bearish" for this period.
Myriad: Predict Bitcoin's next price movement Click here.Exchange-traded funds, or ETFs, serve as investment vehicles that hold underlying assets and trade on stock exchanges, allowing investors to buy and sell shares through standard brokerage accounts. A spot Bitcoin ETF specifically holds actual Bitcoin, with each share representing a portion of that asset. This setup provides investors with indirect exposure to Bitcoin's price without the complexities of direct ownership.
This ease of access is a significant draw for both traditional and institutional investors, contributing to the rapid growth of these funds. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs launched in January 2024 after enduring years of regulatory hurdles and quickly became some of the fastest-growing ETFs in history.
Currently, daily cash flows exhibit considerable volatility, alternating between substantial inflows and sharp withdrawals, influenced by price fluctuations and the macroeconomic environment. As a result, market analysts closely monitor these flows as a barometer of overall sentiment.

Image: DecryptThe recent pullback caps a generally strong period for Bitcoin ETFs, which attracted $2.8 billion over eight days as Bitcoin neared $80,000, achieving their largest single-day inflow since May. Throughout this period, daily inflows frequently surpassed $300 million, reaching a peak of over $600 million on August 20.
On the other hand, Ethereum ETFs have shown consistent strength, collecting $102.1 million on August 28, thereby extending their inflow streak to ten days, according to SoSoValue, which has pushed their cumulative inflows to around $12.9 billion against total net assets of $13.8 billion.
Ethereum ETF Net Flows. Image: DecryptDecrypt's tracker continues to reflect a "bullish" sentiment for Ethereum. This sustained demand represents a significant change, as Ethereum products have recently come close to matching Bitcoin's daily inflow, despite having a much smaller asset base.
The contrasting trends in inflows occurred as Bitcoin's value decreased following hawkish comments from Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh at Jackson Hole, which dampened a rally that had pushed Bitcoin towards $80,000. By the weekend, Bitcoin had rebounded to around $79,000.
The outflow observed is relatively minor compared to the substantial sums these funds have accumulated since their inception, and the end of an inflow streak does not necessarily indicate a decline in institutional interest, which remains strong for both Bitcoin and Ethereum.
