  • Jason Lai, the previous chairman of Schroders Wealth Management Asia, takes on the role of senior adviser at B2C2 in Singapore.
  • This strategic move aligns with the increasing interest in crypto and digital assets among family offices and asset managers in Asia.
  • B2C2 aims to grow its APAC operations in institutional liquidity, payments, and wealth management, supported by parent company SBI Holdings.

B2C2, a provider of institutional crypto liquidity, has appointed Jason Lai, the former chairman of Schroders Wealth Management Asia, as a senior adviser based in Singapore. This decision aims to strengthen B2C2's connections with family offices, funds, and asset managers throughout the Asia-Pacific region, as announced by the company in a press release on Thursday.

Lai has extensive experience in the private wealth sector in Asia and founded Thirdrock Group, an independent wealth and asset management firm established in 2009. After its acquisition by Schroders in 2019, he held positions as CEO of the Asian wealth management division and later as chairman before retiring in 2026.

Established in 2015, B2C2 is an institutional crypto market maker and liquidity provider catering to banks, exchanges, brokers, hedge funds, and asset managers. The firm employs proprietary trading technology to deliver continuous liquidity and execution across various markets, including spot, derivatives, structured products, and over-the-counter transactions.

This new hire comes at a time when traditional wealth managers and family offices in Asia are increasingly interested in digital assets. According to Boston Consulting Group, total assets under management in the region are projected to reach $99 trillion by 2029, with Singapore and Hong Kong recognized as pivotal financial hubs. Goldman Sachs reports that approximately one-third of family offices globally are already investing in cryptocurrencies.

Growth in Asia

Asia is becoming a crucial intersection for both retail and institutional interest in cryptocurrency. The Asia-Pacific region experienced the highest growth in onchain activity globally in the year ending June 2025, with transaction volumes increasing by 69% to $2.36 trillion, as reported by Chainalysis.

India ranked first in global adoption, while Singapore and Hong Kong are competing to position themselves as regulated digital asset centers, making them vital markets for firms aiming to attract traditional financial institutions and affluent investors.

Lai stated in the press release, “Asia's wealthiest families and managers are increasingly investing in digital assets. B2C2 has the liquidity and execution infrastructure this client base needs.”

His appointment follows a series of strategic hires by B2C2 in Asia under the leadership of APAC CEO David Rogers, including the appointment of Laura Teo as the country head for Singapore.

With 90% ownership by Japan's SBI Holdings, B2C2 is part of a broader initiative by the financial group to expand into digital assets.

The liquidity provider is now focusing on further development in payments, wholesale liquidity, and services catering to family offices as part of its regional expansion strategy.

Recently, CoinDesk reported that B2C2 has engaged in discussions regarding potential acquisitions with several interested parties over the past 18 months, according to sources familiar with the situation.
