Summary
- Leaked images of iOS 27's redesigned Siri, released by Bloomberg ahead of WWDC 2026 on June 8, reveal a new chatbot application, integration with Dynamic Island, and a universal "Search or Ask" interface.
- For this overhaul, Siri will utilize Google Gemini technology, as Apple's existing AI models were deemed insufficient.
- This month, Apple reached a $250 million settlement regarding a class action lawsuit related to unmet promises about Apple Intelligence, allowing eligible buyers of iPhone 15 and 16 to receive up to $95 each.
Just eleven days prior to WWDC 2026, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman shared an in-depth preview of the upcoming Siri redesign, featuring rendered visuals based on insider information.
The leaks depict a standalone Siri app that includes conversation history, a "Search or Ask" feature that can be activated by swiping down from anywhere in iOS, and rich result cards that emerge from the Dynamic Island. This represents the most significant redesign of Siri since its debut in 2011.

Activating it triggers an expansion with a glowing animation. An additional method to access it involves swiping down from the top center of the display, revealing a comprehensive text-and-voice search panel that essentially replaces Spotlight. Users can swipe further to access the Siri app, which features a scrollable history of past interactions.
This dedicated Siri app will allow users to upload documents and photos, maintain a continuous voice mode, and utilize a drop-down menu to direct queries to ChatGPT, Google Gemini, or Claude directly from the interface. Furthermore, Apple is exploring options to allow third-party AI agents available through the App Store to function with iOS 27.
Path to WWDC
Apple first introduced a vision for a "personalized Siri" at WWDC 2024, which would cater to individual users by understanding their screens, messages, and calendars. However, it spent 18 months explaining the reasons for its inability to deliver this feature.
The company formally postponed the upgrade in March 2025, citing quality concerns, which led to a class action lawsuit. Earlier this month, a federal court approved a $250 million settlement regarding claims that Apple promoted AI features that were "nonexistent at the time."
The foundational functions of the new Siri will not rely on Apple's own AI models. In late 2025, the company announced a partnership with Google to license Gemini as the core technology for the assistant, reportedly at a cost of about $1 billion annually. OpenAI, which had integrated ChatGPT into iOS since 2024, is now pursuing a breach-of-contract claim, asserting that the feature was so hidden that most iPhone users were unaware of it.
Previously, users had to explicitly state "ChatGPT" to access it; Siri did not automatically redirect queries there. OpenAI had anticipated subscription revenue from the iPhone's vast user base. This new multi-provider drop-down feature in iOS 27 appears to be Apple's strategy to enhance user choice in AI selection, enabling improved discovery from the outset and preventing similar issues with future partners.
Render Insights
In addition to the chatbot application, the Bloomberg illustrations reveal that Siri will be integrated into the Camera app as a specific capture mode, replacing the current Visual Intelligence button. Users will be able to take a photo and send it to a third-party AI—such as Google for reverse image searches or ChatGPT for analysis—without leaving the camera interface.

iOS 27 may also feature a redesigned natural-language Shortcuts interface that allows users to simply describe their desired automation, bypassing the traditional workflow builder, along with AI-generated wallpapers and a system-wide grammar checker. Gurman notes that the final designs may still be subject to change before June 8, as Apple routinely tests various versions internally prior to finalizing any features for WWDC.
The camera integration holds significance beyond the iPhone. Apple is developing AirPods with cameras and smart glasses, both intended to transmit visual data directly to Siri. The Camera mode in iOS 27 represents an initial step in a broader strategy to familiarize users with visual AI on their smartphones before it transitions to wearable devices. Camera-equipped AirPods could be launched as early as late 2026, with smart glasses targeted for a 2027 release.
The new version of Siri is expected to be available to consumers as soon as September, coinciding with the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and Apple's inaugural foldable iPhone. This will mark Tim Cook's final major product introduction before John Ternus takes over as CEO on September 1.
