On October 6, Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, announced in Taipei that the company plans to greatly enhance its chip supplies by 2027, driven by the surge in artificial intelligence demand. According to Su, AMD has already increased its production volumes this year, as reported by Reuters.
One of the reasons for Su’s visit to Taiwan is to ensure that AMD's supply chain can handle the ramp-up of CPU and GPU production. She has already met with representatives from Foxconn and plans to hold discussions with TSMC. Additionally, AMD is collaborating closely with memory manufacturers; later on the same day, Su is scheduled to travel to South Korea, home to Samsung and SK Hynix.
When asked about potential investments from TSMC in Texas, Su did not provide a direct answer but noted that the company will require additional capacity for advanced wafer production. She emphasized that the high demand for chips is expected to persist over the next few years, prompting AMD to plan for three to five years ahead.
Chasing the Leader
AMD competes with Nvidia in the AI graphics processor market. As reported by Channel Insider, the company's revenue surged by 50% year-over-year in the second quarter of 2026, reaching $11.54 billion. The data center segment contributed $6.7 billion, more than double compared to the previous year, making it AMD's largest business division. On September 21, the company's market capitalization surpassed $1 trillion for the first time during trading.
Key clients include major AI laboratories. On October 6, 2025, AMD and OpenAI signed an agreement to deploy GPUs with a total capacity of 6 GW. The first gigawatt based on the Instinct MI450 is set to launch in the second half of 2026. AMD's CFO, Jean Hu, projected that revenue from this deal could reach tens of billions of dollars.
On July 22, 2026, AMD announced a partnership with Anthropic, which plans to deploy up to 2 GW of Instinct MI450 accelerators in its Helios rack systems, with the first gigawatt expected to roll out in the first half of 2027. AMD also committed to investing up to $5 billion in Anthropic.
According to TradingView, as of the time of writing, AMD's stock has risen more than 188% since the beginning of the year.
Additionally, in June, Bernstein revealed details about Core Scientific's $14 billion deal with AMD.
