Director Andy Serkis announced that machine learning will play a role in this process, although he emphasized that traditional filming methods will still be employed, ensuring the film is not entirely AI-generated.
While specific actors slated for de-aging were not disclosed, it has been noted that over 25 years have elapsed since the original "The Fellowship of the Ring" film, affecting returning stars such as Elijah Wood and Ian McKellen.
